INTRODUCTION:

When George W. Bush was declared the winner of the 2004 election, I thought that my disappointment in the adult population of the United States could not possibly get any deeper. Boy, was I ever wrong!

I didn't watch the election results on November 8, 2016. I went to bed confident, almost complacent, that morning would bring news that the United States had elected its first woman president and that her opponent, a vulgar demagogue (I still refuse to speak/type his name), would finally fade into insignificance and relative obscurity. Instead, it felt as if I'd been smacked in the forehead with a baseball bat. I stumbled through the day, in a fog of incredulity and despair.

I looked at everyone I encountered with suspicion unless I knew, with utter certainty, that they did not help elevate such a vile human being to the highest office in the land. I commiserated with friends who, like me, now feared for the future. I wore (and still wear) a safety pin. I "unfriended" tangential people on Facebook who were gloating and celebrating, and I "unfollowed" many more who were clearly accessories to this heinous travesty, including family members. I wanted to purge my life of people who could find it in themselves to overlook the gross misogyny, the bigotry, and the bullying (not to mention the utter lack of anything resembling the requisite qualifications). To hell with acceptance. Some things are so far beyond compromise that it's insulting to even suggest it.

As the weeks passed, I could not escape his name and his photo. Each time it appeared in my social media feeds, it was like poking a fresh wound, a wound that has not been given the opportunity to scab over, much less heal. It's an assault to everything that is decent and kind and generous, and now it's going to be in our faces for years.

I've always been an outspoken activist, but I knew the world that dawned on November 9th would require me to step up my game. Big time.

So, I created an additional Twitter account to confront hate on one of its chosen venues. There, I indulge myself and respond to his tweets in the only language he seems to speak: vanity. I poke and prod and call attention to the hypocrisy. It's cathartic, but I don't delude myself that it's in any way enough.

I joined and am active in the state and local offshoots of Pantsuit Nation. I already have my Metro pass and pussy hat, and I will proudly participate in the Women's March on Washington on January 21st. That's also nowhere near enough.

This book, which will benefit Move On, will add to my efforts and the efforts of all the wonderful authors who've contributed. It's still not enough.

I will write and call and rally and boost the signal of all resistance efforts. Not enough.

Nothing will ever be enough until this monstrous stain is obliterated.

Submissions of short erotica and erotic romance are sought for the upcoming collection Coming Together: On Wheels, edited by Leigh Ellwood, to benefit UNHCR. UNHCR assists refugees around the world in seeking asylum and rebuilding their lives.

For this anthology, we're looking for stories about sexy, badass heroes and heroines on wheels. We want tattooed and leather-clad bikers, daredevil stock car drivers, daring street racers... fast on the streets but hot between the sheets, or in the backseat.

We welcome all sub-genres and pairings for this project. We'll take futuristic or historical, BDSM or romcom, M/F or anything in the LGBTQ spectrum. If they ride, we'll read. We are looking for believable characters and strong and sizzling prose guaranteed to melt any digital reader.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Direct all submissions to ffcomingtogether@gmail.com and CC submissions@the-erotic-cocktail.com.

Include “Coming Together On Wheels Submission” in the header of your e-mail. In your e-mail message, include a short summary of your story, a two-line blurb, and a short biography, about 150 words.

Stories between 3,000 and 7,500 are preferred. The editor will consider stories as long as 10,000 if she finds them truly exceptional.

Coming Together contracts non-exclusive rights to publish, so previously published work may be considered. Please note it in your query, but remember you must own the rights to the work you submit. Stories over 5,000 words may be released individually through Coming Together as well, with the sales proceeds benefiting (Charity).

Please use RTF, DOC, or DOCX format when submitting a manuscript. Include your legal name and pen name and a working e-mail address. The editor will only consider manuscripts in the aforementioned formats attached to the query e-mail. DO NOT paste your story in the body of your message.

Coming Together and editor Nobilis Reed are pleased to announce the contents of the upcoming collection, Coming Together: Outside the Box, an anthology is dedicated to PG Holyfield, who passed on August 20, 2014 after a brief and vicious battle with cholangiocarcinoma.

Launch is planned for Memorial Day weekend 2015 at BaltiCon.

All proceeds from sale of this anthology will go to The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, a research foundation dedicated to collaboration, understanding, research, and education of this rare but deadly disease. PG Holyfield's novel, Murder at Avedon Hill was one of the first "podcast novels" and his work in this area marks him as one of the pioneers of the podcast novel form.

Due to PG's years of work as an audio podcaster, an audio edition of the anthology is also planned.

Coming Together and editor Nobilis Reed are seeking submissions of erotic stories with a pioneering theme. Think of the word in any sense you desire. As examples, pioneering can refer to research and engineering in a real-world or science fiction, magical, or steampunk milieu; it can be settlers moving into a previously uncivilized area in a historical, futuristic, or contemporary setting; it can even refer to combat engineers who facilitate troop movements, or the first species appearing in a previously barren environment. Above all else, the word refers to people changing the world by setting an example of a new way of living or thinking, whether in a practical or metaphorical sense.

The anthology will be dedicated to PG Holyfield, who passed on August 20, 2014 after a brief and vicious battle with cholangiocarcinoma. All proceeds from sale of this anthology will go to The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, a research foundation dedicated to collaboration, understanding, research, and education of this rare but deadly disease. PG Holyfield's novel, Murder at Avedon Hill was one of the first "podcast novels" and his work in this area marks him as one of the pioneers of the podcast novel form.

In keeping with the pioneer theme, we encourage established authors to strike out into new territory when writing for this anthology. Specifically, we are hoping to see submissions from authors whose primary genre is not erotica.

Due to PG's years of work as an audio podcaster, an audio edition of the anthology is also planned. Donations of assistance with audio recording and editing will be greatly appreciated.

Stories should be between one thousand and six thousand words. (Stories at the upper end of this range be also be released as single titles to benefit the same charity.) Manuscripts should be in Times New Roman font with 1" margins all around. Attach the RTF file to an email containing pen name, the author's website & social media links, and a brief bio. Exclusivity is not required, but please indicate if the work has been previously published. No simultaneous submissions. Treasures: Sommer Marsden

INTRO:

Once in a great while, an editor collides with an author who is an absolute joy to work with. One who delivers the goods on time (or even early), one who needs minimal edits and is gracious when changes are necessary, and--in the case of Coming Together--one who is unfailingly generous with her words. Given how hard won my words are to me, the latter is extremely precious.

Sommer Marsden has been a Coming Together contributor since its first open call way back in 2006. Back when ebooks were the inferior cousins of real books. Before Kindles and Nooks and iPads.

Sommer was there.

She has consistently submitted her stories to Coming Together collections ever since. I don't think I've ever turned one away. And why would I? She writes edgy, raw passion. Unapologetic sexuality. It really doesn't matter if the protagonist shares your kinks and triggers. She'll hook you with emotion.

Sex is extremely difficult to write well. Sommer makes it appear effortless! That said, I'd seek her work in any genre. She spins an engaging tale (tail?) regardless of realm.

This inaugural collection of Treasures will benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (pancan.org), a charity selected by Ms. Marsden for very personal reasons. Your purchase not only benefits the organization directly, but also supports Sommer indirectly.
